Our Footprint
At Django Coffee Co. we not only want to roast and sell amazing coffee but we also want to minimise the effects of our footprint on the environment and make sure that each stage of the coffee chain, from harvest to process, is carried out with a knowledge and understanding that does justice to everyone involved. We believe that sustainability is very important to produce quality coffee, livelihood longevity and a healthy enviroment.
Direct Trade
We only buy our green beans from respected suppliers who go direct to the farms and co-operatives, cutting out the middle men, meaning more money goes to the farmers. Our suppliers build mutually beneficial and respectful relationships with these individual producers or co-operatives which leads to more control over coffee quality, social issues and environmental concerns. We pride ourselves on the transparency and traceability of our coffee. The ethical supply chains created through direct trade are keeping with the principles of trust, transparency and integrity. It is cooperation rather than competition and nurture rather than predatory. Working directly with local produces or companies situated in the countries of origin helps farmers with finance, education, improving sustainable farming techniques and help with exporting their coffee. Our Packaging
The bags that we use for our coffee are omnidegradable, can be resealed and contain a valve to allow the coffee to perfectly degas after roasting and keep the coffee fresh and of the highest quality. Omnidegradable® is unlike any other degradable plastic ever invented in history! Don’t believe us, believe science. Unlike other biodegradable solutions, when products are manufactured from Omnidegradable® plastics, they break down in any environment – pollution free! The only elements Omnidegradable® products break down into are water, carbon dioxide and biomass – all of which are beneficial to plant growth. They can decompose in home compost heaps, commercial digestion and even just water. We send our coffee out in compostable mailing bags which offer an eco-friendly mailing solution. The double glue line seal is designed to offer re-use, as an added environmentally friendly addition. Therefore, these bags can be used twice and are fully compostable.
Carbon Offset
According to a study published in the Science journal, planting trees is the best and most effective way of fighting climate change we have. The environment is very important to us and so to offset the carbon we produce as a business, we have partnered with One Tree Planted to help their fight against world deforestation. We have decided to plant our trees in South America and in particular the Amazon Rainforest. Planting trees here not only offers a chance to help all the millions of species that rely on the Amazon but also employs local tree planters and help fight against poverty in a handful of Latin American countries.
